Silkbind-Wings build guide: team damage amplifier

Silkbind-Wings (牵丝·翊) is the fan-and-drum path that turns up a group's damage instead of chasing its own. It is strong in group PvE, dominant in the large-scale faction war, and noticeably fragile in small PvP.

You built Silkbind-Wings like a normal DPS. You stacked your own numbers, chased your own parses, and finished every dungeon at the top of the meter. Then your group wiped on a boss you have personally cleared five times, and nobody could tell you why.

Here is why: this path is not a DPS spec that happens to buff people. It is a force multiplier that happens to show up on the damage meter. The fan and the Ribbon Drum exist to raise everyone else's output, and playing them as a selfish rotation costs the group far more than it gains you. The meter will never tell you that. The dead group will.

How does the fan and drum split the work?

The fan applies the buff layer; the Ribbon Drum (舞绫鼓) turns that layer into group-wide damage. "Ribbon Drum" is this site's descriptive label — no official English, French or Japanese name has been announced, so treat it as a working name rather than gospel.

What does Flowing Wind (流风) do?

The fan's special skill applies Flowing Wind, which strengthens fan martial-art skills. Two things matter: it is applied by the special rather than a passive, and its duration has never been published — not by the official site, not by the community wiki, not by tutorial content. This page writes exact duration TBD because there is no confirmed number to print.

In practice you learn the window by feel: you watch for the buff to drop, not for a timer that does not exist.

What is Rustling (扶风) and how long does it last?

Source of RustlingDurationConfidence
Fan martial-art skill — primary record25sPrimary; treat as the working number
Secondary records, source-dependent15s / 24sConflicting; do not build a rotation around these
Zephyr Whispers (风知意) Tier 6+6% attribute attack to selfSeparate effect, not a duration

When sources disagree on a buff timer, the honest move is to quote the primary record, label the rest as conflicting, and not pretend the disagreement is not there. A guide that prints a single flat number for Rustling with no source note picked one and silently dropped the others.

What do the drum layers 娇鼓 and 烁鼓 do?

This is the part most English guides skip, because it needs two Chinese drum names with no official English equivalents.

  • 娇鼓 (Jiaogu) and Rustling are mutually exclusive, and 娇鼓 takes priority. When 娇鼓 expires it applies a 12-second Rustling. That tail is your buff bridge — the reason group uptime can keep rolling instead of falling off a cliff.
  • 烁鼓 (Shuogu) is a melody layer with three recorded states.
烁鼓 melodyLengthExtra property
炼鼓 (refining drum)6.5s—
Melody two10.5s (6.5 + 4)Carries a shield
Melody threeNot statedCarries a silence

The 6.5-second base is short by design: you are expected to re-apply, not to cast once and forget.

Which Inner Ways does the build run?

SlotGroup PvE百业战 (faction war) swap
1Morale Chant (易水歌)寸草心 (English name unresolved)
2Harmony Song (相和歌)Harmony Song (相和歌)
3Zephyr Whispers (风知意)Zephyr Whispers (风知意) — cannot be swapped
4弦墨篇 (English name not in our records)弦墨篇

Why does this build work?

  • Harmony Song and Zephyr Whispers are the core pair. Zephyr Whispers is explicitly non-swappable in the war build; without either one you are not playing Silkbind-Wings, you are playing a fan.
  • Zephyr Whispers at Tier 6 adds 6% attribute attack to you. That is the one piece of selfish scaling in an otherwise selfless build, and it is why the spec still contributes personal damage.
  • Morale Chant is the sustain slot in PvE. The war build trades it away, because large-scale fights reward a different survival profile than dungeons.
  • The drum melodies are a rotation, not a cooldown. A 6.5-second base forces re-application, which is why the spec has high APM and low tolerance for standing still.

Where is this build fragile?

  • Group PvE: strong. This is the home mode.
  • Large-scale faction war (百业战): dominant. Buffs scale with the number of players standing in them.
  • Small-scale PvP: fragile. Fewer bodies means fewer people to multiply, and the spec's own defensive profile is thin. If your plan is dueling, this is the wrong character.

Pro tips

  • Track 娇鼓's expiry, not its uptime. The 12-second Rustling tail is the actual value; letting it drop with no buffer to catch that tail is the single biggest uptime loss in the build.
  • Do not re-apply 烁鼓 blindly. Melody two buys a shield, melody three buys a silence — pick the melody for the mechanic in front of you, not for the parse.
  • In war fights, stand where the melee is. A buff on three people is a different spell than a buff on fifteen.
  • Treat every Rustling number as unverified unless it cites a source. The 25 / 24 / 15 conflict is real and unresolved.
  • Do not chase your own meter. If you are top DPS and the group is dying, you are misplaying the spec by definition.

Frequently asked questions

Is Silkbind-Wings a support or a DPS?

Neither, cleanly. It is a damage amplifier that contributes its own damage. Groups bring it because the total goes up, not because the individual number does.

Why does this page refuse to give a Flowing Wind duration?

Because our sources record it as unpublished, and every source checked agrees on the absence rather than on a number. A guess would propagate into every guide that copies this page, and nobody could ever correct it.

Can I swap Zephyr Whispers for something defensive in PvP?

Not in the war build — it is explicitly marked non-swappable there. In small-scale PvP the spec is the wrong tool regardless of the Inner Way list; the fragility is structural, not a slot problem.
